We make star maps of moments that matter: the exact position of the stars above a place, on a date and hour that counts for you.
What we make
Every poster is a calculation, not an illustration. You choose a date, a time and a place; we compute which stars stood above that spot at that moment and print exactly that. No two orders are the same. Alongside star maps we make city maps: the layout of a place that means something, with the streets and water as they actually run.
How we calculate it
Star positions come from the HYG catalogue (version 4.1), a public astronomical database combining Hipparcos, Yale and Gliese data. We show 8,870 stars from it: everything down to magnitude 6.5, roughly the limit of what the human eye can see. Converting that to the sky above your location uses the IAU 1982 sidereal time formula — the same method planetarium software uses. What you see in the preview is what gets printed.
How we print
We print on 200 gsm coated silk at 300 DPI, through a European print network. Your order is made in the country closest to you, which limits shipping distance and the emissions that come with it. Posters ship rolled in a sturdy tube; framed prints come in a solid wood frame with anti-glare plexiglass.
Who we are
StarredNight is the trading name of Hexade VOF, a Belgian company founded on 1 July 2023, based in Strijtem. We are a small business: your email is answered by the same people who build the site and check your order.
What we are honest about
Our reviews come from customers who actually ordered a poster from us. We publish none that we wrote ourselves — that is misleading and prohibited in the EU. Our delivery times are estimates from the print network rather than guarantees: if something goes wrong, we would rather hear it straight away.
